Second gong for 2009 vintage.
The 2009 vintage of Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009 has been awarded a gold medal at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards 2010. This wine has now won gold at both of New Zealand’s most prestigious wine shows – the Royal Easter Show and Air NZ Wine Awards. The international panel of judges at the Hong Kong International Wine Challenge also agreed with this assessment, giving this vintage its first overseas gold medal. The wine also boasts a gold-medal equivalent five-star rating from Cuisine magazine. “What makes this result so special for us is that our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is clearly still the benchmark, 30 years after we first pioneered this style of wine,” says Patrick Materman, chief winemaker for Montana. “We are blessed with more experience making wine in Marlborough than anyone and have the ability to select fruit from some of the region’s very best vineyards. It is very gratifying that independent wine experts recognise how this enhances the quality of the wine.” With a recommended retail price of $17.99 – and frequently available on special for considerably less than this – Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc offers amazing value for money. “Here’s a gold-medal winning wine with an incredible heritage… and everyone can afford it,” says Materman. “We’re very proud of this achievement by the team.” Montana has further reason to celebrate, as its sparkling Montana Reserve Chardonnay Pinot Noir Rosé NV was also awarded gold at the same competition. A total of 1517 wines from 276 wineries were judged in this year’s Royal Easter Show Wine Awards, which is now New Zealand’s oldest wine competition. |
